Welcome to the push or pivot podcast, a podcast that inspires you to trust yourself in the crossroads of life. I'm your host, Thea Charles. As a life coach, I know that when you put fear aside and trust yourself, you'll know when to push through adversity, and when to stop, reassess, and pivot. I believe magic happens whenever a push or pivot story is shared. And that magic is exactly what you'll find here.

This month, we talked a lot about the pause, the place where we rest our minds and make the decisions to either push through or pivot in a new direction. But what happens when we feel stuck in the decision process? This type of stuckness is called analysis, paralysis. analysis paralysis is when you get stuck in the decision making process. Because You're overthinking, it can happen when we don't make our next step a small manageable one, or fear that our idea is not right. And perfectionism sits in. Or we can even think that if we muddle over our problem a little longer, a better aha idea will come along. Basically, this fear of making a mistake, or missing a better solution stops us from doing anything. So what can you do if you find yourself stuck in analysis paralysis? Well, you can identify what your fear is. Now this may be ironic, but I was stuck in this loop. When creating this podcast episode. I realized that I was feeling stuck, because quite frankly, I wasn't sure if the message I was trying to convey was clear enough. Would anyone actually listen? Should I do more research? Basically, I didn't want to feel like an imposter in front of all of you. Once I realized the imposter syndrome was my fear. And I realized that I literally help life coaches, stop overthinking and clearly articulate their specialty to their audience, which gets them hired, I was able to change my thoughts from what could go wrong. To what could go right.

I remember that my hope from this episode is that at least one person will hear these words and recognize how perfectionism can hold them back. This realization was my first step into getting out of my rut. You may have heard the quote, perfect is the enemy of good. Despite what we may believe perfectionism isn't all that great. The stress involved with being perfect stifles our creativity, we're not able to see other options available to us when feeling stressed. Plus, when we're doing something new, it's nearly impossible to gather all the information, because it's something we haven't experienced before. mistakes and bubbles and a process or plan. Give us information on how to improve. I suggest to everyone to try moving into a growth mindset where we know that change is inevitable. And just know that we can always adjust our processes and plans to make them better as we learn along the way. And we learn by doing. So jumping in before you're 100% ready, and simply trusting your gut is how to get out of that stuck. analysis paralysis loop. Before we end this episode, I like to share one of Aesop's Fables. It's the story of the Fox and the cat. A fox was boasting to a cat of its clever devices for escaping his enemies. I have a whole bag of tricks he said which contains 100 ways of escaping my enemies. I have only one set the cat, but I can generally manage with that. Just to that moment they heard the cry of a pack of hounds coming towards them, and the cat immediately scampered up a tree and hid in the leaves. This is my plan to the cat. What are you going to do? The Fox that first of one way, then of another. And while he was debating, the hounds came nearer and nearer. And at last the fox that his confusion was caught by the hounds. The cat, who had been looking on said better one safe way than 100 on which you cannot wreck in. The moral of the story is that it's better to run with one idea than to have 100 that you can't decide on. Have you ever experienced analysis paralysis? What's one area that you feel stuck?
