hello friends, today we're talking about mindset. The dictionary definition of mindset is a mental attitude or inclination. And often we hear mindset referred to as either fixed mindset, or a growth mindset. a fixed mindset is one that avoids challenges gives up easily, and can be plagued by comparison to others, and may feel fixed in their abilities. This is often where we land when we feel stuck, and generally hopeless in our situation. Ultimately, a fixed mindset has us feeling limited. On the other hand, a growth mindset is a mindset of freedom and opportunity. People exhibiting a growth mindset, embrace challenges, want to learn from their mistakes, and know that it will take effort to build new skills. Like anything else, we can find ourselves fluctuating between a growth and fixed mindset. Being aware of what we tell ourselves in our minds, can clue us into where we are operating from. So why am I telling you this, telling you this because I want to share my personal and very recent example, with these two types of mindsets. On Saturday, my laptop crashed. This laptop felt like it was my world. And I'm sure many of you feel the same way about your computer. So let me set the scene and go back to Thursday. On Thursday, I interviewed a former client for this podcast, we had a great conversation about how mind, body and soul are connected, and her personal journey. We also talks about mindsets, and how to become limitless. I got off the call with her and felt so happy. And I let the computer save the conversation to the drive. While I went to pick up my kids from school, who were super excited about Easter break. We came home, I started dinner and talk to them about the plans for the weekend. This was a change from my normal habit of going back to my episode and uploading it to the cloud is simply living in the moment feeling happy.

So then on Friday, I took it all off and we went to the museum We had lots of fun in the city. And by Saturday, I came back to my laptop and played around with email. And then I remembered the saved interview. I clicked on a file, and everything froze in a way that I'd never seen before. And the next thing I know the screen went black and a flashing file appeared on the screen. It took probably one second for the joy of the weekend to fade straight off my face. The thoughts started to swirl in. Why didn't you save this properly on Thursday? Did you lose family pictures? What else is on there? And as I heard myself in my head, I closed my eyes. I close the screen and decided to clear my head on head on downstairs and get on my exercise bike. I'm not sure pulled up. I am sure that this would not have been my reaction a few years ago. But with practice, I realized that the only thing I could control in this situation and in that moment was my mindset. I know I've said this a lot on this podcast. And generally I just like to tell people that believing in things in the future is an act of faith in believing and things that have not and may not happen. We have a choice in this belief, we can lose ourselves to fear. And we can have faith that there are possibilities that we just have to look for. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a realist. But I knew that clearing my mind would give me options to potentially fix what was happening with my computer, I was able to look up cords to make it a glorified external hard drive. So I could take the items off, be level headed enough to explain to the computer Help Center what was happening, and be okay with the worst case scenario, to simply redo my episodes, and the interview, and hope that the quality will be even better than what we originally started with. By going in a growth mindset direction, I felt some of the stress of the situation Mel off. So in case you're wondering, the computer's not fixed. The first court I ordered was the wrong size. The second one was right, but didn't seem to be connecting to our desktop. As expected. I'm a little sad and bummed. And also feeling lost without my main business tool. But I know I will be okay. I've learned to not only schedule time for my interview, but also factor in the upload time. distractions happen. And the sweetness of this weekend should not be minimized by one mistake. And in this computer crash happening, it brought us this example for me to share with all of you and it really drove home to me that push and pivot are just as important as the pause that happens before you decide which way to go.
